[ so, emma's lingering in one of the small shops off the main street, looking for something she just can't quite put her finger on. it's been a mess of a month; henry's working his way back into her life while graham's just fallen straight out of it, and regina's pretty damn keen on revisiting high school, what with all her mean girls tactics. emma's pretty sure the cut above her eye still hurts every time she sees regina around the town. she really just wants to finish what she started back at the crypt.

mean girls thoughts aside, emma's in one of the pawn shops - or a random little shop, either way, since every shop to her is identical to the last - looking for something for … her desk? for henry? she isn't quite sure. but she's certain that when she sees it, she'll know. just like everything about this town, it never has what she really needs. a street directory would be quite nice right about now.

in the meantime, she'll just be aggravated as ever while she tries to figure that out. she's really over solving mysteries. and which store has what she needs is starting to slide itself comfortably into the shape of one.

Once upon a time, the people of Storybrooke were characters from the fairy tales we all grew up with. Then the curse hit and everyone was trapped without their memories in the town we know quite well already.

We all know that story, of course, but what about before the curse? Well, that's where this post comes in. There are untold stories from before the curse that we would like to investigate and these flashbacks posts are where you tell them. Post with your character (with a location or plot idea if you wish) and tag others, as long as they are in their fairy tale forms. Sorry Henry and Emma players! We ask that you warn for spoilers in your subject line if you intend to use knowledge gained from tonight's episode (1x16: Heart of Darkness) in your scenario. Thank you!

Remember, everyone: play nice and have fun.

[ Chris is having a bad week. Nothing is particularly different about it, except for the part where his life has shifted in uncomfortable ways ever since the new sheriff was appointed and he's had to work around her. Graham at least kind of understood this is just what Chris does; he doesn't look forward to breaking in the new girl, too.

So, clearly, the thing he needs to do to keep his mind off all his problems is get back to pickpocketing. He is much more careful than he usually would be — most attempts go off without a hitch, grabbing cash and trinkets that will last him another few days when he spots the sort of people who really could do without. Other times, he fumbles, mostly with people he figures he can con his way out of calling the sheriff or run away from really fast.

Either/or.

Most of his day, however, is spent simply casing the streets and finding targets. People-watching. He doesn't aim to take too much, just a few things that will amount to what he needs. ]

[Trip liked his alcohol. That much everyone knew. Rarely a day went by when he didn't have a drink of some sort. But given the responsibilities of both of his jobs, he rarely got drop dead stinking drunk.

At last call tonight, he'd passed that 5 beers ago. Everything, from Mal's admission then avoiding him to the usual feeling in the pit of his stomach that was somehow made worse by the situation, had come to head and he just hadn't been able to stop.

And now he was walking home through the deserted street, abet slowly and with many detours, so as to avoid the disappointed looks from Leo and Felix. Everything was funny and nothing hurt. For the moment.

And that telephone pole looked fun to swing around right about now.]

[Things have been...kind of exciting and up in the air ever since David. But naturally Mary Margaret isn't concerned only with her own romantic entanglements. Clearly she's concerned about other romances, too. She just wants to see happy endings all around, and not a lot of people seem to get them. She's a bit on cloud nine when she slides into the booth, hot chocolate perfect on this chilly day.]

[On a beautiful day like this, there is absolutely no reason to stay in-doors when you could be outside. That was why Bianca had commendeered the tiny park's gazebo. There weren't many people in her dance class on this day of the week, so there was room enough for them all, and the gazebo was open and airy enough that it hardly felt like they were under cover at all. If they didn't need the firmer ground, Bianca would have done it on the grass.

[It was the more experienced class, too, which meant no one was bothered by people stopping to watch, Bianca least of all. Oh, she was aware of them, but when her focus was on instructing her class she ignored them admirably.

[That didn't mean she didn't take the opportunity to take a breath and look around on occasion.]

... because [livejournal.com profile] storybroken is on the move! While comm importing isn't open to the general populace yet, the moderators of this community both are unfortunately having major issues with LJ's new layout (both loading errors and headaches alike), and so we will be mostly conducting business on Dreamwidth. Journals are still open for anyone to make on that site; once you've got a journal imported, feel free to join [community profile] storybroken and have some fun! A month after community imports are implemented, we will be closing down the LJ branch for good to give people some time to finish up their own threads.

Thanks for your understanding, and we hope to see you guys all soon! ♥

[It's evening and for once, Malcolm has decided against making himself dinner and instead is eating at the diner, taking a booth over with paperwork and his food, which he's distractedly eating while scribbling down notes for whatever security thing he's absorbed in working on. He sighs and starts erasing some of his notes.]

No, that's not right at all. I need to fix this and add a few redundancies to make it more difficult to slip by. I wonder if I could install some sort of taser into the doorknobs, give any would be robber a nice stun...

[This happens too often for it to even surprise him any more. Cody got distracted and now he's late for school, running through town like he has an entire pack of dogs on his tail. Eventually the inevitable happens - his foot catches on a bit of loose paving sending him crashing to the ground. He picks himself up with a groan and pulls out his pocket watch (he's had it for as long as he can remember). His first class is almost over]

I am so late.

[Using a nearby lamp post for support he brushes the dirt from his clothes, wondering just how much trouble he'll be in if he just... forgets to show up]

[ooc: tiny bit of character info in his journal!]

[Things have started to change, Gold noticed. It was time for his role to change because of it. He could not sit idly by on the sidelines anymore and it was now his time to make a move. Not that he would do anything drastic, of course. He instead did something simple and nothing really out of the ordinary.

He took a walk around town. That would allow him to see the changes happening for himself and for him to plot accordingly for his next move. And it wasn't just a short walk. No, it was to every public establishment in town, Gold ignoring the pain it caused his leg. The pain was only a minor payment for information. After all, everything does have a price.]

It had been another day in Storybrooke. Nothing particularly interesting had happened. A water line had broke in a house on 4th street, which had taken most of the morning to repair, and later that night, the church was having an ice cream social for the kids.

And between the two, Trip was at the bar, having a beer. He was sitting at the end of the bar in his usual spot, having smiled and given a polite hello to the other patrons. Just one, since he owed it to the kids to be sober that night, just enough to numb the odd feelings that tended to spring up when he was concentrating on something else. Something like a water line break, which was an easy enough fix and didn't require much thought in of itself. He wished he knew where these feelings came from so he didn't have to drown them away but no amount of sessions with Archie could find the cause. He just hated feeling like this...empty and like he should be something else.

At the moment, his beer bottle was hanging loosely in his hand as he watched a few of the patrons playing a game of billiards. Maybe, since he was limiting himself today, he'd offer to play the winner.

[AU!Trip whose story is here and Storybooke summary is here.]

[ Graham doesn't really get days off. He never knows what to do with himself when he gets days off anyway, a restless hum under his bones (or is that emptiness instead) and lately he's taken to running through the forest in the early mornings to clear his head. He likes it there. It makes him feel— it sounds stupid, even to himself, but it feels right. Relaxing, he supposes.

By the time he makes it back to town, it's still early. He'd finished earlier than he meant to and he takes advantage of it by walking slowly back to his apartment, a familiar ache in his muscles and his hair damp with sweat at the back of his neck. He doesn't know how he knows — he couldn't explain it if he tried — but Graham thinks it might rain, later today.

It was a slow day in the tea shop, just like the day before and as it will be tomorrow. The people in Storybrooke don't seem to be a big fan of it. Matthew leaned against the desk with a soft sigh as he tapped at a small teapot in-front of him. It was white with a tiny door-mouse painted on it. It was his favorite. It always had been for some reason, even though he couldn't quite recall where he picked it up or how it got it.

Still, it was his, just as the lonely shop was. He gave another sigh as he peered out the front window at the people going by. Happy families. Some of them at least. Students running off home as the finally escape the clutches of school. Young lovers enjoying the setting sun.

And what did he have? Nothing but tea. Lots. Lots of tea.

[Mother and Liz are off on a shopping spree and have once again left Stacy to her own devices. Sitting at her usual booth and on her second piece of cherry pie, which she doesn't seem to be eating so much as randomly poking with her fork. Lost in thought, she occasionally doodles something in her notebook.]

[ Although most don't know it, Chris does have a place he can call home. It's in the forest just outside town and barely within the actual city borders. All it really is comprised of is a hammock, seven feet in the air, a tarp tied to one of the supporting trees above him, and a large pile of leaves below him — just in case. His belongings are scattered elsewhere but nearby in several different naturally-occurring hidey holes, such as hollow trunks or nooks within large roots.

Most people don't know of this place (or, at the least, that it belongs to Chris) because he's hardly ever there. This particular day, he's simply been laying in his hammock for hours on end, bundled up under his blankets with a few tufts of hair to speak for his existence in the mound. Last week, he cut himself on the sharp end of a poorly maintained gate, long and enough to sting for quite a while, but took care of it himself (the hospital was always too many risks for a homeless man) and assumed it fine, given time to heal on its own. He was wrong, and soon developed a nasty case of the flu.

And so here he is in the middle of the woods, suffering a horrible fever alone. Where are his men? Had something happened to them? Had something happened to him? His memory is fuzzy, in pieces. He aches and wishes for his nephew, wishes for his best friend. Mal needs to show up with his patented my-cousin-is-an-idiot radar and help him, or maybe James... was James around? The last time the prince had been nearby, it hadn't been in the Sherwood Forest, but on his own turf. Why would he be here now?

He whimpers quietly. This headache was going to be the death of him, he could just tell. ]
